Swimming Otter | Joel Walley Wildlife Photography
Reflective Otter, hunting in the early morning light between Craignure and Salen, Mull. The Otters ( Lutra lutra ) which hunt the coast here and all over the island are commonly very diurnal and often encountered in the day, unlike their freshwater cousins which generally adopt a far more nocturnal lifestyle. This photograph shows the typical position of an Otter in the water with the head and back visible. When travelling they create a small bow wave with their face and they dive with an unmistakable flick of the tail, distinguishing them from seals with which they are sometimes confused.
