Kittiwake in flight | Joel Walley Wildlife Photography
Kittiwake (Rissa tridactyla) in flight around Puffin Island, North Wales. Kittiwakes are summer visitors to the UK where they breed on coastal cliffs. Kittiwakes are probably the most sea faring gull, and are never found inland hence why few people know the species compared with other British gulls such as the Herring Gull, or Black Headed Gull. Despite this, they are probably the most numerous gull in the world with an estimated 7,000,000 pairs worldwide.
