Hen Harrier | Joel Walley Wildlife Photography
Female Hen Harrier (Circus cyaneus ), found on the Ross of Mull, in the south of the island. Many females and sub adults were encountered but only one distant male was seen in the entire trip. Hen Harriers are highly sexually dimorphic with males and females easily distinguished by size and colouration (males being far smaller and almost entirely grey in colouration with black wing tips). Hen Harriers were relatively abundant on Mull, which is brilliant when their scarcity elsewhere in the UK is considered.
