Great White Egret | Joel Walley Wildlife Photography
An adult Great White Egret (Ardea alba) bursts from the reedbeds at RSPB Dungeness, Kent. A rare visitor to the UK, with a few birds seen each year. Much larger and less common than the Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) which has become an increasingly common sight in recent years, the Great White Egret is similar in size and behaviour to a Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea). As the population in Europe grows, the Great White Egret is sure to become an increasingly common visitor to the UK.
