Brown Hare | Joel Walley Wildlife Photography
An adult Brown Hare (Lepus europaeus) standing to attention amongst the grasslands of the North Kent marshes. Elmley RSPB, Isle of Sheppey. Hares are unlike their rabbit cousins as they do not live in an underground warren. Instead they spend the day in a shallow scrape in the ground called a "form" where they rely on camouflage and a sprinting speed of up to 35mph to evade predators.
