Feeding Avocet Reflections | Joel Walley Wildlife Photography
Avocet Reflections. An adult Avocet (Recurvirostra avosetta) feeding on the North Kent salt marshes, Elmley RSPB. The symbol of the RPSB, the Avocet was driven to extinction in the UK, but after conservation work returned again in the 1940's and now represents one of Great Britain's most successful conservation stories. Over 800 pairs breed in the UK and numbers swell to over 3,000 in the winter when birds from the continent fly to the UK to spend the winter.
